Tax Stamp Requirements for Suppressors
Overview
As of January 1, 2026, the tax stamp fee for suppressors (and other NFA items including SBRs, SBSs, and AOWs) is $0. Silencer Shop automatically includes the tax stamp with every eligible purchase — you do not need to add anything to your cart or pay anything extra. The stamp is filed on your behalf with the ATF as part of your Form 4 registration.
What Still Applies
While the tax stamp fee is now $0, the NFA registration process still applies. Every suppressor purchase still requires:
Completion of your registration information (fingerprints, photo, and personal details)
A fingerprint scan at a Silencer Shop kiosk or via mailed fingerprint cards
An ATF eForms account to submit your Form 4
eSign of your application (sent to you by email)
Approval from the ATF before your suppressor can be transferred to you
FAQs
See the questions below for common questions about the $0 tax stamp.
Do I need to add a tax stamp to my cart? No. Silencer Shop automatically adds the tax stamp to your order. Nothing extra is required from you at checkout.
Does the NFA process still apply? Yes. The $0 stamp covers the fee, but you still need to complete your ATF Form 4 registration — including fingerprints, photo, and eSign — through a Powered by Silencer Shop dealer.
What if I purchased a suppressor before January 1, 2026? Orders placed before January 1, 2026 that had not yet been submitted to the ATF can take advantage of the $0 stamp. Contact Silencer Shop support if you have questions about an older order.
Does this apply to all NFA items? No. The $0 tax stamp applies to suppressors, SBRs (Short Barreled Rifles), SBSs (Short Barreled Shotguns), and AOWs (Any Other Weapons). The following NFA items still require a $200 transfer tax: Machine Guns — still regulated under the NFA; civilian ownership is limited to machine guns registered before May 19, 1986. Destructive Devices (DDs) — includes grenade launchers, artillery pieces, certain large-bore firearms over .50 caliber, and explosive ordnance regulated under the NFA.
